AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECH TRAINING

Many aircraft mechanics, also called airframe, powerplant, and avionics aviation maintenance technicians, specialize in preventive maintenance. They inspect engines, landing gear, instruments, pressurized sections, accessories—brakes, valves, pumps, and air-conditioning systems, for example—and other parts of the aircraft, and do the necessary maintenance and replacement of parts. Inspections take place following a schedule based on the number of hours the aircraft has flown, calendar days since the last inspection, cycles of operation, or a combination of these factors.

The purpose of the Aviation Technology program is to train Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) technicians. Graduates also qualify to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) A&P certification exam. The FAA requires the A&P certification of individuals who perform inspections, maintenance, and mechanical repair of all licensed American aircraft.

• Powerplant & Airframe Technology

Airframe and Powerplant Technicians are needed to keep aircraft in peak operating condition. They perform scheduled maintenance, make repairs and complete inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administratio (FAA).

Airframe and Powerplant Technicians are authorized to work on all parts of the aircraft, except the instruments. Having both ratings qualifies an individual to work on any aspect of any aircraft made anywhere in the world!

Redstone prepares you for industry certification exams such as the FAA exams. If there is an exam required to enter your field of study, Redstone pays for you to take it (first time only.) Some tests are even administered on campus.

• Advanced Electronics Technology (Avionics) Diploma

• Avionics Technology

The AVT program focuses on the Avionics technologies leading to an NCATT certification. You need to have your A&P licenses prior to taking this program. The AVT program takes about 7 months to complete or 1,000 hours.

• Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT)

The AMP program combines Airframe & Powerplant with Avionics to give you the best Aviation Maintenance Education and most desired by Aviation Employeers The AMP program takes about 21 months to complete or 3,000 hours.

All practical phases of the programs utilize the tools and equipment of the trade. Qualified instructors supervise all work. Projects are first demonstrated to establish procedures and techniques and then individuals work to develop judgment and refine skills. Students rapidly progress from basic to advanced projects and then take on greater responsibilities. Practical training is designed to prepare students for certification as FAA licensed Airframe and Powerplant Mechanics as well as the NCATT certification for Avionics.

Diploma programs:
• Aircraft Dispatch

This curriculum prepares students to work with pilots to ensure all flights are planned and operated at maximum levels of safety and efficiency. In cooperation with the pilot, the Aircraft Dispatcher furnishes a flight plan containing information such as weight restrictions, weather reports, field conditions, fuel required and potential hazards to ensure the aircraft arries at its destination safely. Written and practical examinations are required for FAA certification.

• Aviation Maintenance Technology

From performing maintenance on corporate jets to working on race car engines; MIAT teaches students what it takes to succeed in today's job market. Hands-on program focuses on the precision technical skills necessary to become FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant Technicians. Learn by doing.

• Power Technology

The Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology's Power Technology Program was created in response to industry and employer demand for qualified Technicians. The program will train technicians to maintain and repair power turbines and generators. These technicians also perform mechanical and electrical component maintenance and repair and/or replace parts to correct malfunctions.
